Amador County is a marvelous
place to work and play. With a distinctively rural flavor,
lots of space and an abundance of recreational opportunities,
Amador is truly rare among California counties.
The pace isn't as rushed as it is in the big cities.
People are friendly, it's a great place to raise a family,
and it's also a popular retirement destination with
a thriving community of senior citizens. There are lots
of the modern conveniences people seek in the larger
cities, yet none of the intense congestion or unhealthful
smog.
The entire county population numbers under 35,000 people,
in an area that covers 593 square miles of largely unspoiled
and uncrowded beauty. The elevation ranges from the
low-lying foothills bordering the San Joaquin and Sacramento
valley, to the majesty of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The Sacramento, Stockton/Lodi and Bay Areas are reasonable
drives, and just over the "hill" (8,000+ feet
of splendor!) is beautiful Lake Tahoe and the Carson
Valley and Reno areas in Nevada.
