The entire county population numbers under 35,000 people, in an area that covers 593 square miles of largely unspoiled and uncrowded beauty. The elevation ranges from the low-lying foothills bordering the San Joaquin and Sacramento valley, to the majesty of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The Sacramento, Stockton/Lodi and Bay Areas are reasonable drives, and just over the "hill" (8,000+ feet of splendor!) is beautiful Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley and Reno areas in Nevada.
